‘Blue Balloon Radio’ 2025

Preview:  Friday 3 January 2025 (6-9 pm)

Exhibition Dates: Saturday 4 January – Monday 13 January 2025

Address: ALICE BLACK, 7 Windmill St, London W1T 2JD

ALICE BLACK is proud to host ‘Blue Balloon Radio’, the debut solo exhibition of London based conceptual artist Jane McCabe (b. 1993, Vermont, US). McCabe holds a BA in Studio Art and Architectural Studios from Middlebury College (2015) and an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London (2023). Through photography, sound, sculpture, installation and performance, McCabe’s practice probes the compulsion to record, somewhere between ritual and habit, as a gesture of experiential time in relation to mortality.

Over the holiday season and orbital turn of 2024-2025, 7 Windmill Street will become an immersive recording lab for the exploration of PROPAGATION in its theological, botanic, and physic interpretations. ‘Blue Balloon Radio’ unveils the largest print to date from an ongoing series of cyanotype photograms of the artist’s dad’s ashes on silk, experienced through the lens of an unlikely double encounter with a Blue G Balloon. Anachronistic photographic processes are inter-stitched to house a study for sound, synchronicity and grief.

The exhibition will continue beyond its closing with the premier broadcast of ‘Blue Balloon Radio’. Artists working in sound are invited to utilize an open-source physic garden of wav files, trimmed and taxonomized from and for the exhibition, to propagate musings on synchronicity through their own practices.

Please join us at the inception of ‘Blue Balloon Radio’ on 3 January 2025 6-9PM at ALICE BLACK, 7 Windmill St, London, W1T 2JD. The exhibition will run from 3 Jan through 13 Jan, open daily from 12 to 6 pm with a series of performances. For more information please contact: jane@aliceblackgallery.com
